Why We Need Change

Our schools are great. So many members of our One Team are passionate educators and employees and dedicated to our shared cause. There are, however, more than a few areas that need immediate attention. I’m running to clean up our act at every level so our school district can focus on the real issues of maximizing our students’ educational experience while also maximizing stakeholder communication and satisfaction.

Below is a (sadly) non-exhaustive list of the concerning actions I’ve observed from our current Board of Education majority and certain members of the CCSD leadership. I think you’ll agree that, while there is so much to be proud of with our school system, actions and issues like these do not represent or serve Cobb, warrant a great deal of concern, and a dire need for new leadership.

Our current School Board has also routinely abused publicly-funded communications platforms and channels through both official CCSD communications and non-official “newsletters” using parental information. Back-room dealing has become a mainstay of our fiscal decision-making, bypassing traditional bidding processes. Public discussion in regards to spending is non-existent, with only a final vote called in front of tax payers. Finally, the current Board majority has used their power to silence the other three BOE Representatives by instituting a new rule. This rule requires 4 BOE Reps to approve adding an item to the Board Meeting Agenda for public discussion; the current majority reject anything requested by their 3 colleagues. This BOE majority also removed the time during board meetings where Representatives could talk about what was going on in their Posts and concerns their constituents have expressed. By doing so, nearly half of the stakeholders in our Cobb County School District are now without effective representation on their school board.
